Andrew Hearin received his Ph.D. in physics in 2012 from the University of Pittsburgh. He worked as a postdoc in the Theoretical Astrophysics group at Fermi National Lab, and then as postdoctoral fellow at Yale before joining Argonne in 2017.

Mike was nominated by the students in his Astronomy Field Course, an innovative course he designed that gets astronomy majors directly engaged in research with the Magellan telescope. This year, 59 scientists from around the world were elected Fellows or Foreign Members of the Society for their outstanding contributions to science.
