George Filippatos, KICP associate fellow

PhD in Physics, Colorado School of Mines, 2023

I study ultra-high energy cosmic rays as a window into the most energetic environments in the universe. As a member of the EUSO collaboration, I am working on the development of next generation space-based detectors designed to observe the optical signatures created by cosmic particle interactions with the Earth’s atmosphere. Our collaboration utilizes high altitude scientific balloons as a testbed for these novel observation techniques. I participated in the 2023 launch of EUSO-SPB2 from Wanaka New Zealand and am currently working on its successor, POEMMA Balloon with Radio.
